He is called Vasco by his friends. For more close pals he is Thalaai. And his actual name is Vasco Da Gama. He is the son of Pathrosassan who aspired to make him a historian by naming him so.
But today he is the gang leader of Chotta Mumbai- a group who are small time conmen based in Kochi. The gang which consists of Basheer, Tomychan, Chandrappam, Sainu and Susheelan aims only to make enough money each day doing a little bit of swindling, cheating and embezzlement.
They are always in colorful outfits, stylish and enjoying the life to the core. And by the end of the day they will be there to blow it all that they have managed to make. Their main victims are the hordes of foreign tourists who come flocking to the city
Vasco has two sisters - Rachel and Maria. He is extremely fond of them, and whatever he does, he will never allow giving a little pain for them.
Pathrosassan decides to get Vasco married, to tame and to keep him out of the illegal activities and for that he finds a girl-Latha Thomas, an auto rickshaw driver. She popularly known by the name parakkum Latha is determined to marry Vasco, but he denies keeping the word of his father. Now Latha is after Vasco with whom her marriage had once been planned.
But then something happens that dramatically changes the carefree happy-go-lucky lifestyle of Vasco and his friends. What that forms the rest of the story of Chotta Mumbai.
Chotta Mumbai is directed by Anwar Rasheed, the super hit director of Rajamanikyam, which was one of the biggest grosser ever. Benny P Nayarambalam writes the screenplay for the film, based on the story by the director.
The film has a big cast which includes Siddique, Bhavana, Jagathy Sreekumar, Saikumar, Rajan P Dev, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramu, Narayanankutty, Kochupreman, Indrajith, Manikuttan, Bheeman Raghu, Santhosh Jogi, Vinayakan, Sanusha, Mallika Sukumaran, Rani and Manianpilla Raju. Kalabhavan Mani appears as C.I. Nateshan, a strong negative character in the film.
The music department of the film is by debutant Rahul Raj. Produced in the banner of Sreebhadra Pictures, the film is cinematographed by Azhagappan.The film was shot in and around Kochi, is expected to become the biggest hit auto rickshaw driver of the season, slated for a Vishu release on April 7th, the film is distributed by Vaishaka Films.
